Week 3: Thoughts About Technology

The cat is created by technology. Or the photo of the cat is.

The cat is created by DNA technology.

At one family gathering I noticed the majority of the people there shared the same mitochondrial DNA. All of it back to one grandmother.

Everything is technology and craft. Art is mostly craft, work, creation. Technology is creation.

I looked at Flickr and made a trading card. I thought I had saved it but I had not. It was not really worth saving, anyway!

I don't think I would want to share my photos on Flickr. I don't think I'm a social networker.

This past week I had a long email discussion with a friend of mine about publishing and reading poetry on the internet. The main thing is that the urge to create and communicate doesn't change even if the medium does. More people might read his poem on the internet than would read it in the print version of the same journal. I sent him a link to Pew Institute studies on the internet and American Life. http://www.pewinternet.org/index.asp

I like email, though I have found that, just like when I used to owe friends a letter, I now owe them an email.

I like blogs that have lots of visuals.
Last night my husband and I discussed our favorite message boards that we read: mine is Television Without Pity and his is a USC Football site. I read but do not contribute comments; he does both.

This Blog Is For The 23 Things Exercise

Fire and Ice
by Robert Frost
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
